Old nurses eating young

My preceptor hated me and kept being mean to me. She has also been complaining to my boss on a daily basis to get me in trouble. How do young nurses deal with this? I got fired because of her. I never made any critical errors but she has made up stories about me.

Suck it up, and find another job. Also get rid of the attitude that your problem is this older nurse. More than likely you contributed to getting fired in some way. Since you can only control your actions, I suggest finding another job and kissing some butt till you make it through orientation (being facetious, but you get the point).

Doubtful. You must have, in some way, contributed to this. Just because you never made 'critical errors' does not mean that she was out to get you. Reflect on your performance, consider it objectively, lose the appalling attitude- and move on.

In the first place, older nurses are not OLD nurses. I am older and continue to practice critical care nursing quite well, thank you very much, after 36 years. In the second place, "old nurses eating their young" has been used ad nauseum. You alone are responsible for learning what it takes to become a good nurse, you and nobody else. Older nurses are a great resource for learning new skills and most of us love to mentor new nurses. May be time for a little attitude adjustment.
