I never thought the day would come that I would finally be through with orientation. But that day has come and I'm so grateful! I still have to ask questions now and then, but not having someone hover over my shoulder saying "did you do this, did you do that", "this should come first, no this should come first", "your priorities aren't right", blah blah blah. BTW, my priorities were right, my preceptor just wasn't there at the time to see that I had done the priority assignment.
It's just so nice to do things as I want. I'm feeling so much better about being a nurse now.....I almost quit during orientation, it got that bad, nerve wrecking. I'm so glad to have stuck it out! It does get better for anyone out there that is struggling.

I finished up my orientation on Sunday. My boss just called me today to ask me to pick up an extra shift on Thursday. I laughed and said "I just finished up precepting and you need to already" she laughed and said "yea, I think you got this down".
Made me feel good. I moved to weekends my last precepting week for my weekend option posistion and my god it is soooo much better than working through the week. I am thrilled with the ladies I work with!

Congrats! It feels good not having some one hover over you watching like a hawk, don't you think.

Thanks for the post. I have six months of orientation, and I just completed month one today, (that went quick), anyway, I am already tired of my preceptors hanging over my shoulder too, and the bad part is that they say they trust me so I couldn't imagine if they didn't! And I have three of them so I've been working with one for pretty much the whole time, and the other two have kind of just been added so they have to get to know me more, but geesh, I am just really tired, its like, I'm a licensed nurse, and no I definitely do not know or even understand everything, but I ask questions when I don't understand or don't know how to do something, and even if I just feel like I need to follow up with like hey isn't this blah blah blah, I'll ask, but I'm honestly tired of working with another person already and its only month one:bugeyes:

OMG i know what you guys are saying! i am totally a flexible person, but when i had 5 different preceptors that are totally different in what and when and how they do each and every single thing... you go nuts. you never get a chance to do what you want, in the order you think or want, or heck, even think for yourself! its awful.. i mean, all in all, i am a better person because i saw so many different ways of doing things, but sure not a confidence booster til you are on your own! i was never as happy as the day i was done a month ago!! my NM wanted to take me off orient a lot sooner, but i couldnt get in for my boards til aug, so i was stuck for that reason alone.

Same here. I thought orientation would never end. I didn't like how some of my preceptors hovered over my every move and thought. It felt so restrictive and it also threw the critical thinking skills out the window. But it's over and i'm finally feeling like i'm some nurse!
