Hi! I've asked this already but managed to put it in the wrong forum I'm currently working as an operating department practitioner, which I gotta say I am loving, but the advancement prospects are not the greatest. I would like to have more freedom in the range of areas I can work in. So I was wondering, is it possible for me to take a short course to become a nurse? Or would I be required to do the full three year degree? Also has anyone here gone from being an ODP to a full nurse?
Thanks :)

You will more than likely have to do the full training but best ones to ask would be the universities you plan on doing your training with.

Do you have a degree or is your ODP qualification a DipHE? If you have a degree you might be able to apply for one of the shortened post grad nursing courses such as a PGDip, if not you will probably have to do the full three year pre reg course. You might be able to skip some modules though, but this will depend on individual universities.
Have you looked at any advanced practice roles as an ODP? They seem to be branching out a lot more from theatres these days, mainly into areas like critical care or emergency medicine, there's also scope to go into advanced practice for ODPs from what I've seen both in theatre and in some of the newer roles.
