OCD at work

I am very OCD (obsessive-compulsive) at work. I wipe down my work station with Sani-Wipes, Organize the charts, neatly arrange to vital sign machines, even make sure the beds in empty rooms are lined up EXACTLY with the pull string on the light. I am also very much a germ freak - constantly washing or sanitizing my hands. After I eat a meal, I have to brush and rinse twice.

Is anyone else like this or am i just nuts (lol).

I believe that everything needs to be in order, look nice and be clean in order for my job to run smoothly.

I like to be neat at work, but am a total slob at home. I can never have people come visit me, it is very bad. That being said, I was a home health nurse for a long time, and those of you with the aforementioned behaviors will not do well in the home health/home hospice world.

No one else's home is in your control, and, trust me, you will run screaming from many of them. And I am not talking about the extremes, here, either!

You know - dirty laundry in the corner of the bedroom, overflowing trash in kitchens/bathrooms, dirty dishes all over the table, sink, stove.

So stay in the hospital setting, and try to maintain order when you can.

But remember this - - there is truly only ONE thing that you can control, and that is your attitude. NOTHING else is under your control.

And BEST WISHES to all of you!

Not true...I'm in HH and it doesn't bother me a bit... I suppose precisely BECAUSE it's noy " my" home that it doesn't. I guess I just know that another's home is out of my control , so it's ok. Especially since it is a patient.. I can handle that. Plus IknowI won't be there very long. ... Heh heh...

But now if that were my daughter or son's place,it would bother me..and I'd be wiping and sorting.. And, and, and.... ;)

:p Yeah, i'd say you're a little nuts. But in a good way. Just don't hold me to the same standard. I couldn't care less if the bed is lined up, if the sheets are straight, if the BP machines are in a line or how many times I brush my teeth. I am a handwasher, though. My mom was a nurse and she drilled it into me WAAAAYYY before I ever went to nursing school. :nurse:
