Obtaining IV certification

Featured Replies

Depends on what state you live in, check with your BON for IV certification and whats required, many will have a list of approved courses. Google is your friend for BLS/CPR. I got mine at the local firehouse.

I took my IV certification at a place that offered that class along with a few others--BLS, ACLS, NCLEX reviews, etc. I found it by going to the webpage for my Board of Nursing and looking at an approved list of places offering the class.

If your state Board website does not have a list of approved providers, do an internet search for your area. Another source is to call the staff education department of the local hospitals. You also might try your community college or other nursing schools. They usually offer the course at the end of the LPN program and might welcome the public.

When I was researching IV certification in 2007, I was in FL but would be going back to Ohio. Through an internet search, found several places that offered it. Most hospitals only offer it to their own employees. I found a pharmacy, PharMed Corporation, that offered it on weekends, cost was $400, and took 2 full weekends to complete. I have yet to use it but it helps to have it. Good luck.
