Hi all,
my my wife and I are originally from south Florida. I am a ER/medsurg RN. My wife will be finishing school in 4 months as a RN. Her family is from NYC. Recently a nurse told me that some rn's go to nyc for a couple years due to very high salaries. Live very cheaply save Lot of money then leave. One lady told me she did m/s and home health and after five years had saved over 400k. Any truth to this or is it complete BS?

Who knows if it's true or not? What we do know us that it's very hard to "live very cheaply" in NYC without a long commute.
I also suspect that you may readily find a job given your experience, while your new grad wife likely won't.

You can live very cheaply in NYC if you live with a friend and don't pay rent, and also don't eat. OH, and also don't pay for subways, buses, taxis, or parking. Or gas. Or anything at all.
The col in NYC is extremely expensive so yes this is BS. On top of that there's no need at all for new nurses in NYC, a minimum of a bsn and a few years of experience will get you a job of some kind but your wife might not find employment for months. She's not had clinicals at the hospitals that are hiring and she's from a school that may or may not even be heard of in nyc.
You aren't going to be there for a couple of years, save a billion dollars and leave. That's a joke.
