Looking to go to NYC in September. I am an ICU nurse looking to work in Manhattan. Anyone have any advice on which hospitals use travelers that are in a safe part of town?

Also, would you take the housing or the stipend? What is the housing like? Can you take your car?

Thanks!

There's a lot of competition to get an assignment in NYC. Especially since it's a popular place.

Well I think that's a given..... Don't let that deter you! Anyone have some advice on hospitals? Expriences?

I knew 2 nurses that worked at 2 different facilities that enjoyed their experiences at NYU in the Neuro ICU and the other Cardiac ICU in Beth Israel. Their coworkers were welcoming, skilled, and their schedules were flexible to what days they wanted to work.

Another traveler said she stayed at Trump Towers and loved it. It was a 5 minute train ride and a short safe 10 minute walk to the facility.

Generally the hospitals were in safe locations and were an easy walk from the train. Housing was the main issue. The upper east side is noted safer to stay than the west side.

Hope this info helps.

I'm currently on my 7th month here in NYC and I must say I absolutely love it!! I'm currently looking for a new assignment jus because I need less hours and I think I need more of a challenge. It's certainly hard to find positions here, though. I just happened to spring upon this position in November, but currently there are no positions in the city. I just think the work flow goes in waves. The East Side is no more safer than the West Side. It all depends on the particular neighborhood...East or West. Be sure to ask them to place on whichever side the facility is on. Makes the commute way easier!
