Does anyone know how I can go about hiring a tutor for nursing school? I am in my 3rd semester and really struggling. My school is very small and does not offer tutoring. I live in Dutchess county NY. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Ask your academic advisor or nursing department. Most schools offer an academic tutoring center on campus.
You are better off seeking a tutor from your program this way the person is familiar with the coursework and requirements of your program. As opposed to hiring a random person online.
Even if they don't officially offer tutoring they can often recommend a current or former student that can tutor. I'm contacted occasionally by my alma mater to assist current students. Depending on the needs sometimes I don't charge or negotiate for coffee.
Of course, obnoxious know it alls are charged full going rate.

We can try to help you here....what are you struggling with?
How to retain the info and become a better test taker. I felt like I was studying to understand the info. but shortly after the test. its gone. I must be retaining it short term which is not helping me one bit. I am falling behind. I feel as though I cant catch up. My final is on the 10th. I need an 80 (that also happens to be the passing grade in my school). I really dont want to repeat the class.

Are there any upper class men or recent grads that you can contact? Our program has a FB page, so there are grads from classes past as well as current students that can all be in touch, which is nice for things like this!
Have you looked into any NCLEX test taking books? The exams in nursing school are so different from any other classes, and it's a struggle for a lot of people. I have heard excellent things about Saunders for this (though I can't speak from personal experience).
I think that is an excellent suggestion.....check with your nursing adviser to see if there is any upperclassmen who are willing to tutor. Get a NCLEX study book and do questions pay special attention to the rationale.
Use the search feature on this site and you can find many suggestions
I have many NCLEX books. The questions in there are not the problem. I do much better on those than my schools exams. Most of my classmates have the same problem. Its just very frustrating. Thank you for responding to my post.
Is it retention of information? Are you doing OK on tests? Every nursing student feels that they forget things the minute the test is over when you actually retain much more than you think.
I have failed 3 of the 4 exams we have had. Passing is an 80. I have gotten a 76 and two 78's. We have had two quizzes which have brought my grade up to a 80.2, so I am passing the course but an 80 on the final seems like a daunting task. I have not figured out the best study method so far. I am sure I am doing too much. I put in about 6-7 hours a day. I only have the time my kids are in school.

Have you tried a study group up to 4 classmates and taking turns going over key things you got out of lecture then before going to the next chapter/subject let the other members chime in about the key points that they got and you might have missed etc? This helped me tremendously. I believe it was Jean Watson who stated the highest level of understanding is teaching. Please don't quote me but I know I learned this in Fundamental's of Nursing in the history section regarding Nursing Theory.
