Nursing or Teaching? Advice needed!

Ok here's my issue.

I work at Sylvan Learning Center teaching Math and running the Math program (writing lessons, administering assessment tests, etc.). I LOVE IT!!!

I love teaching! But I also love nursing! My boss at Sylvan just offered me a directors position at Sylvan if I decide to stay there and do nursing part time after school and boards.

I don't know what to do? What do I want? Both! I want to do only like one or two days of nursing and then be at Sylvan the rest of the time, but how will that work?

Will any hospital floor hire a brand new graduate nurse for only weekend work??

I wish I could split myself down the middle and do both at one time!

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

yes, there are hospitals that will hire you for weekend work. They need nurses so they should work around your schedule. I know my hospital would. Don't split yourself down the middle, that would cause split personality. ha ha I'm so funny!

Why not do both (become a nurse educator)?:D Practice nursing on the weekends for a few years to gain experience (Baylor plans are great!). I have a BSN and teach ADN students at a small community college. I am starting an online Masters in nursing program as we speak--at the University of Southern Indiana--Nurse Educator. :cool:

My advice: STAY AT SYLVAN!

Don't count on hospitals or any other healthcare facilities accomodating themselves to you, or to any nurse. Read some of the threads on these forums if you want a LOT more evidence for this argument.

lolol...IF I knew then..what I know now...would I have chosen nursing? I don't think so! I THOUGHT nursing was about "caring"..but.....the hospitals like you to think that way..while THEY think.."money, profits...and creating an

"appearance only" of a caring institute. Its NOT about caring...its about hospital profit regardless of how many nurses end up depressed, burnt out and discarded. They WILL discard you easily as they think the supply of nurses is endless. Much easier to replace you with someone else that will burn out too.....

Like VickyRn said, why don't you try and become a nurse educator? Then you can do both!

That's what I like about my educatorsjob!

I'd stay at Sylvan. That sounds like a great opportunity. But if you like nursing and love to teach, you can be a nurse educator in a variety of areas: staff development, patient education or nursing education. Most of the people I know in staff development LOVE their jobs.
