Nursing is not for me

Published

Hello everyone,

A little background, I am what people refer to as an old new grad nurse. Someone who took a year or two to land a first RN position.

I remember starting out nursing school. My friend and I were practicing our nursing skills in a lab. we looked at one another and said we will never work in a bedside position. My friend quit nursing for biology and she now has a masters in public health. I on the other hand finished my BSN degree.

i now realize it was a big mistake to finish BSN. Right now I want to quit my RN position. I want to go back to university to get my masters. I have MPH in mind. Does anyone know about any other master programs to keep me as far away from nursing as possible.

Specializes in 8 years Telemetry/Med Surg, 5 years Stepdown/PCU.

Well it's good that you realized that nursing is not for you. Mph is a great area to go into.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Oncology.

I do know a couple people who quit nursing school for Public Health and are happy they did so. It's a wonderful field with a lot of versatility to it. I'm glad you've figured out another possible path to take!

MPH and MHA (yes I lumped them) degrees are tenuous at best without proper guidance. I know many healthcare recruiters barely scrapping by with their master's in health degrees.

Point is, grass isn't always greener. A BSN can open a lot of doors, often more so than a generic MPH or MHA.

You raised my flag when you mentioned that bedside wasn't for you - even while still in school. Sorry but we all gotta do it. And I heard that from some of my cohorts in school - there's always that group that just want to fly right into nurse anesthetist to make that triple figure salary and think bedside is something beneath their intelligence.

I have no interest in Nurse anesthesia.

I just don't like nursing in general.
