hi everyone. i am new on this site. i have a question for everyone. i am already a BA degree holder in psych. and i am thinking of going into nursing. but i dont know if i should go for the AA program or the accelerated BSN program. not a lot of colleges have the accelerated BSN program. only a couple. but, it will take me a couple of years to fulfill their requirements. cuz it is a christian school. and AA takes two years and it will take me only couple of semesters to take all the pre-reqs. can someone give me some advice about which path to choose. i am really confused. thank you!

OK I am confused? The BS will take a couple of years and the AA will take 2 years? If that is really what you are saying I don't see a delimia go for the BS.
You get a more "valuable" degree for the same time spent. (yes I know the value is relative)

i'm a graduate of business mgnt here in the philippines and i am currently taking up bs nursing(it's gonna take me less than 3yrs, and it's not even an accelerated bsn! :)) but i have inquired about the accelerated nursing courses there in the states and i know that it shouldn't take you more than 2 or 3 yrs to finish an accelerated bsn. all you're required are zoology, anatomy, etc, which shouldn't take you more than a year. why dont you ask other colleges or universities that offer accel bsn? :)

It all depends on what you want to do with your education. If you want to be upwardly mobile you will need BSN. Both degrees prepare you for staff nursing. There is a tendancy now for facilities to require BSN for management positions. Another option is to get AA degree, whatever that is, get your license and begin working as RN. Then get BSN part-time, even online in some cases.

If you can do the BSN, then do it. For me, because of finances, I am going the Associates route. I've got a BA in Psych as well...just started back to school this spring for nursing. I can't afford to go to a 4-year college right now, so I'm going to the community college to get the ADN & then I'll go through an RN-BSN completion program after I find a job (that will pay for it!). :)

Anjie -- It all depends on how quickly you'd like to start working as an RN. If the answer is as soon as possible, from what I think you're saying about the local colleges where you are, then go the ADN route.
You can always complete the requirements for a BSN (if you subsequently believe that's still what you want) later -- and likely get it paid for by your employer.
(CCU -- Think the AA was a reference to an Associate in Applied Science degree.)

I would see if you can find a University in your area that offers a second degree program. It is a program that is offered to students who already posses a B.S. in another field of study. I think it will shorten your time getting your B.S.N but I am not sure by how much. Here in MI many of the universities offer this. Here is a sample program from GVSU here in MI:

Good Luck!
