It's not too bad........Eugene doesn't pay as well as Portland, where wages average around $28 an hour. I'm from Albany, and at over $25/hr. I'm doing pretty well for living in an area where the average wage (for all workers) is about 10 bucks an hour! The market is definitely shrinking, however; recently one of the hospitals in our organization laid off 15 nurses, and another chain's hospital near Salem laid off 45 a couple of months ago. We're having to make do with fewer CNAs and higher nurse-to-patient ratios, as well as higher acuity........but that seems to be true for all areas of the country, not just the NW.

Hope that helps answer your question. :)

thanks,

does anyone know about Peace Health? or Sacred Heart? That is the hospital i grew up around, wondering what its like to work for them.

I work for Sacred Heart, I am actually slaving away right now. I really enjoy it. My dept manager is very pro-nurse and feel like the wage is OK.

hi -

i live in eugene, but don't work in a hospital so can't answer your questions about salary there. but i make $25./hr. working in a group home so the salary is not bad. just wondering if you have thought about working for mckenzie-willamette hospital? they're in springfield, although both hospitals are supposed to be moving, so sacred heart will no longer be downtown. anyway, friends who have worked at both prefer mckenzie-willamette. just a thought.:)
