Nursing and HIT

Hi all,

My name is Sonya. I am an LPN with 30+ years of experience. About two years ago I was told about about a program looking for nurses and IT people to learn Health Information Technology. So, two years later, I started and completed the course. Now I am dying to learn Epic, the most widely used system to implement the coming changes in 2014. I say all of this, to ask if anyone out there has taken the course, is working in this field and if so your experiences! HELP!!

    Was HIT a course, or program, or certificate? Did you pass a certification test. To work with Epic find a hospital that uses Epic and apply.

    As ginger's mom says, you will have to find a hospital or facility that uses epic, apply for the job, and get the job. Or you can simply go to the epic website and apply for a job directly from epic.

    When a nurse graduates from nursing school and they want to work in psychiatric floor, or they want to work in the ICU, or maybe they want to work in telemetry---what do they typically do to get that job? Most likely they find a hospital that has those units and apply for those specific jobs in those units.

    Although I have not taken the course you took, I have a couple of these candidates who have taken this course you talk about and their biggest problem is that all they did was take the course and never got involved with informatics in their hospital or place of work as they thought completing this course was enough to get a job.

    Problem is that other candidates out there have super user experience or they have actively gotten involved with their informatics department, so typically the job offers go to these individuals, and as it has been stated in this forum many times over, get involved in informatics if you already aren't.
