I am new the the nursing field and the nurses I work with are so rude and walk around mad at everything all shift. Is there a certain point where some people should re-think their career options?

Burnout is a terrible phenomena - nursing is so hardphysically, intellectually and emotionally, so it is not a mystery that birnout occurs. Especially when trying to balance that with the demands of life. I dealt with burnout bymoving to a new area of nursing when I started to feel cranky. It worked for me plus it has provided me with a diversity of experience thatI am very happy with.the current economic climate and talk of "reform" has everybody nervous and afraid.

Maybe a better question would be "why might they act and feel this way?"
I'd ponder that before I'd say they should find another career. This is not to say being a grouchy employee is good - I'm not saying that. But the expression "walk a mile in my moccasins..." comes to mind.

Like any other business, management can often be the cause of employee misery.

some people just need to realize its not everyone elses fault they're going through a ":angryfire" time, everyone just needs to relax and be cool. once in a while we're all entitled to a bad day or something but everyday??....c'mon, it's annoying.....i typically just ignore those behaviors and carry on with my happy self. GOOD LUCK

Burn out may be very real, but I believe a significant number of these nurses bring these issues with them to nursing school on the first day and the problems ferment. How many of these people have the same issues in their personal as well as their professional lives? Some people just aint gonna be happy, can't blame it all on work.
Love the ones important to you and limit the hurt that the unimportant can inflict on you. Do the best you can for as long as you can and don't let the ********* get you down.

Well, I find myself feeling some burnout myself currently and although I don't go around being a B to everyone I find myself considering making a move to another job. My problem is that I like my job and I like my manager but we have some difficulties on our floor in terms of our patient satisfaction scores (which some of us take very seriously). I have given my manager very specific information and loads of documentation regarding some of the employees that I work with in regard to areas where they need to improve and she just will not take them to task. She is just too nice and she just hates having a confrontation with someone. I have been a manager and I know what she needs in order to address these issues but it is very frustrating to be trying your best when those around you are just doing what ever they want and no one is doing anything about it. It is very bad for morale. I suspect some of those nurses might be feeling that same level of frustration.
