Aug 4, 201213 yr Experts You are only required to be a CNA/STNA if you work in a Nursing Home/LTC facility. It's a federal program that was designed to prevent elder abuse.
Aug 4, 201213 yr Some hospitals may require one to be a CNA for inpatient floor duty.Or (as I sometimes suspect), maybe they were just messing with me, for their own, unknown, reasons.

Aug 7, 201213 yr In some assisted living facilities you do not have to be certified, but you will also not be identified as a CNA by the IDPH. It's like doing CNA work without getting credit for being a CNA, except not vital signs. The pay tends to be better though (in the facilities that I've seen).
