Nursing admissions hard?

I wouldn't be too worried about being accepted. Just focus on doing the very best you can in your classes. But make sure you are a well-rounded candidate. Volunteering is great. Get involved in a variety of activities. That will take you far. Good luck!

Hello everyone I will be going to CCBC (community college of baltimore county) in the fall to start my prereqs for nursing. So I guess I am a nursing student. N E 1 else in here went of goes to CCBC. I am hearing that it is hard to get accepted into the actual nursing program because it is selective admission. That made me vey ancious about going to school for it :uhoh21: :stone (but i'm still going to give it a try).:chuckle But anyways I was wondering is it really hard to get into nursing if it has selective admission? And what if any, alternatives do I have if I don't get accepted? Also any advice on what I could do to help me get accepted? P.S. Congrads to those who got accepted, good luck.:balloons:

It is hard to get into CCBC. I just put in my application for the Fall of 2005. From what I hear it's mostly based on your GPA. Also, they just implemented this new four hour test to be used as part of the criteria of who gets in and who doesn't. All I can say is study hard and pray! That's what I'm doing.:)

I know i heard about the test at the nursing info session. what do they test you on. what is the test called? At the session they told me f/ the eve/weekend program the min GPA accepted was a 3.0. and that was f/ 2003 admission. i'm pretty sure its higher now. Also do u know what the waiting lists like?

The test is called TEAS(Test of Essential Academic Skills). It test on skills in Reading, English, Math, and Science. They will begin administering it on 18 of Jan. up to March 19. There's a website where you can buy a study manual. It's www.atitesting.com.

Yes, I'm sure the G.P.A is higher. I'm so nervous. I have never heard of a waiting list for CCBC. I believe if you don't get in you have to re-apply for it. Hope this helps.

I go to Prince Georges Community College. Their criteria for getting in now is 2.5 GPA (one of the criteria anyway). When I first started asking about petitioning for the program, they told me that 180 people petitioned for a class of 60 people. It is very competitive, but it made me that much more focused to getting the good grades and staying competitive above the other students so that I could get in.

Don't let it deter you from trying. And never NEVER let anyone tell you that you can't because what do they know anyway! Go and do it and be the best!

I just talked to an Essex nursing teacher this weekend ( I will be at Catonsville). She said there is no waiting list. If you don't get in you have to reapply. GPA is important the higher the better but it is your REQ SCIENCES that they look the most at. SHe said you really need A's and even low on the B's to get in. SHe said you could have all A"s in all your other pre-req's but if you are pulling C's in your sciences your chances are pretty nill.

I just started the clinical nursing program at Montgomery College. Admission was almost solely based on GPA. I understand that the minimum GPA for this class was 3.7. Class size is 64 per semester; over 500 applied I'm told. Prereq's include Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Chem., Micro., Lifespan Dev. Psych. Just concentrate on getting the best grades you can in your prereqs. Good Luck!
