Hi,

I would like to start a discussion about studying nursing abroad.

I really need some advices and life experiences so I can take the right decision.

My husband is working in the US. To be with him I startd a PhD program in my area (Molecular Biology). After 2 years I got overhelmed with my degree and I decided to quit and follow the dream of being a nurse.

I am portuguese but at this point I am planing to start a 2 year nursing program called career change (Graduate Entry Master of Science in Nursing - GEMS) that will give me the RN degree after taking the NCLEX.

Can someone tell me what I will be expecting if I want to return to Europe in two case scenarios, UK or other european country?

It won't be enough for registration in the UK, unfortunately. From the Nursing and Midwifery Council:

"Applicants must have completed a programme at post-secondary level leading to registration as a general nurse. The programme should be three years in length (or equivalent) and contain a minimum of 500 hours of clinical practice which must be evidenced by a transcript of training from the applicant's higher education institution."

UK training is now at BSN level and has been for a couple of years. Mostly the EU follow the same directive so you need to meet requirements of at least 3 years on your school transcripts. The links given to NMC would be a good start
