Nurses Week at the VA

I work for the VA and realized that the hospital itself does not do anything for nursing staff for Nurses week. At least not mine anyway. Outside hospitals do but at ours we have to do fundraising in order for managers to even get us something.Wonder why that is?

because government money is supposed to be spent on the Veterans not gifts for employees.

True, I'd not thought of that

It has been YEARS ..in many facilities, since I even got an email acknowledging the nurse's role in health care.

We are no longer recognized.. because the corporate masters.. have us by the short hairs.

I've never worked anywhere that the facility initiated any nurses week activities, it's always been something that nurses do for themselves, usually organized by a nursing based committee.

I consider my paycheck celebration enough ....but we did get chair massages one year which was kind of nice.
