do nurses have to ride in elevators often?

As a result of being stuck in two elevators, being in an elevator makes me very uncomfortable. I do take them when I have to, but I tend to avoid them when I can.

Is it part of a nurse's job to bring patients up and down in the elevators?

I work ER too, and I take pts places on elevators all the time. Pts of a certain acuity have to have an RN with them, plus a lot of the time there just isn't anyone else available to take pts places.

Have you tried therapy to try to overcome your phobia? It seems I've either read about that or have seen it on TV.

You have the choice to avoid working at places that have elavators. Not all places of employment even have elevators. This seems quite obvious.

Perhaps you assumed that all nurses are employed at big hospitals with plenty of elevators.

Yes. I hate them and would rather use the stairs. However the stairs have a cumbersome code you have to punch in before you can use them. Apparently in the event of a fire the door opens with no code.
