Mayor Jerry Sanders of San Diego has requested licensed nurses and doctors to report to Qualcomm Stadium to help relieve the medical staff that is currently on hand serving the 10,000 plus fire evacuees. Report to Gate A at the stadium. Shifts are expected to be 8 to 10 hours.

RN's - Please do not rush down there. It will take several hours + to get in to the stadium and they have all the help they need for today. They will ask you to sign up for a shift for tomorrow day or night or thursday and then will call if they still need you. I suggest trying to drive in a little later to sign up. They are also turning away other volunteers. Just an FYI.

All services are being organized through the county via calling #211 or the American Red Cross. They are asking that no one just show up at an evacuation center. The ARC may still need nurses next week so if your in the area please sign up on their website or call them. Sorry I don't have numbers handy.

I'd drop everything and volunteer in a heartbeat if I had the means to get down there. No matter how long I live in other places, San Diego County was, is, and always will be my home, and my prayers go out to each and every one affected by the fires.
