NPs working in Texas

I worked for five years in family practice seeing my own patients, doing my own thing, consulting only with my collab physician when needed. Never felt there were any restrictions or problems. I've never been one dying to have my own practice so maybe if that is your goal you will have some restrictions.

Pay in the DFW for an experienced NP seems to run 95k-110K for FNP. I have no idea about the specialty market.

I live in Texas, but literally on the opposite end of the state (I'm closer to California than Houston), however, my classmates that graduated with me had no trouble finding work in the Houston area, and all are doing pretty well. One friend working in ID in Houston is doing very well for herself, but she also puts in a lot of hours. Really depends on what and where you plan on working when you get here since the Houston area is huge and the medical community is one of the largest in the country. Texas as a State has one of the higher NP salary averages nationwide, and it's been my personal experience that NP's working in specialties do very well for themselves. As an experienced NP, it'll certainly be easier for you to find a job than it would be for a new grad, but I have no clue how competitive the specialty is in Houston.
