NP Programs

Greetings All,

I am a new graduate of an ABSN @ Texas Tech HSC. I am wanting to explore my options as far as graduate school, particularly NP school. Prior to entering nursing, I was an elementary teacher with a BS in Biology. I really enjoy working with kids and I have just been hired as a Pediatric Nurse. I'm not sure if I want to go into Pediatric NP or Family NP. Do you have any suggestions?

Also, do you have any suggestions as far as schools that offer online programs. These will work much better with 3 kiddos!!!

Thank you for your input. It is greatly appreciated!:D

There is a good list of NP programs by specialty and state at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners website at http://www.aanp.org/AANPCMS2/ResearchEducation/EducationPageOne/NP+Preparation/NursePractitionerPreparation.htm

Do not rule out NP programs in your state that are not online. For example, fulltime students at the FNP or PNP program can complete the program in 4 semesters with classes 1 day a week (or less) -- and we are not online. I have students driving 300 miles each way (tuition is much, much less than the private online schools). I know of one state program in your area that is not listed as online (but students come to campus only 2 days per semester).

I am going to suggest becoming a Family NP, to keep your options open. You can totally work in pediatrics as an FNP. I looked into that already for myself ;-)
