NOVA vs FIU Please HELP?????

Hello everyone. I got accepted into Nova's nursing school and I was set on it (wondering how I am going to pay for it) but set on it. Then yesterday I receive an email saying I got into FIU's nursing. I know FIU's school is substantially cheaper than Nova..

So I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which one to choose... If any current nursing students could tell me about their experiences in the programs? Anything!! This is eating away at me and I can't seem to make a choice, so PLEASE HELP!!

It is a no-brainer....FIU. FIU is substantially cheaper and in my humble opinion, a much better Nursing School.

Can you commute daily from your current location (Home) to FIU Campus? My son graduated from FIU Nursing Program and commuted about 45-60 minutes daily for 2+ years. Went on to do the Nurse Practitioner Program ( part-time) also at FIU and commuted for 2+ years.

When I used to do clinicals the nurse anesthetist said that nova nurses are the worst and to go to Barry or FIU. She said the staff always talks crap about the nova nurses.

@SoniaReb .. Yes I can commute. Nova is about 25 minutes away from me, FIU is about 45 minutes away from me. And yes, the price is what's repelling me from Nova...So your son enjoyed the program?

@pookyp Really??? Wow... That's crazy.

Yes, he thoroughly enjoys the school/nursing program and hence the reason he went back there for the Nurse Practitioner program. If you do not like the commute to FIU, you could live off campus (with roommates) for the 2-years and still come out ahead of the cost of the Nova Tuition cost. A large number of FIU Nursings Students commute from Broward County daily. Just make sure you have a reliable car. Good Luck and I wish you the best.

That's suprising because I heard the opposite... I say do what's best for you..

@pookyp one of my friend graduated from nova and she is an excellent nurse. She works at one of the hospital in broward. She just won excellent nurse of the year award. According to her and many others that graduated from nova, nova is a great school.

Everyone will tell you their school is the best....I have heard negative and positive things about every nursing school in south florida. At the end of the day do what is best for you.

Either way you will graduate as a Nurse. FIU is great! Just dont be in Debt! Debt Sucks! How will you enjoy your paychecks if you have to turn around and payoff your loan.

I heard good things about both schools. Financially, FIU is a better choice for me. I really wanted to go to Nova, but I got almost no financial aid from them, and I also heard that transfer nursing students don't qualify for scholarships from Nova. So, FIU it is... I just wanted to hear some experiences from people who have spoked to nurses in terms of being more prepared, and getting hired, and feeling confident in the hospital setting. I feel that is very important... and I've heard different reviews for both on both ends of the spectrum.

lol it comes down to finances, because I go to FIU and the only reason I go is for lower tuition. This school is tough. Hard to come by professors who care. The nurses who graduate from here who know nursing is because they self-taught them self everything and make the effort to learn

But from what I ve heard the there is a huge learning curve for new grad RNS when they get into a hospital for every program.

@DeepBreath I keep hearing the same thing from a lot of people about FIU.. that you do everything on your own and that there aren't really professors who care, but I am going to try my hardest. Any valuable advice you can give me? The medical math exam is scaring me.. i am not very good at math lol
