Notes for Nursing?

You have to find a method that works for you. It took me awhile to figure out the way that works best for me. First I read the book and highlight anything I think I need to know or remember for the test. Once I'm finished reading, I go back and type up everything that I highlighted. Then... I add in the notes that I took from class. It does take paper and ink, but it works really well for me and my notes stay organized and easy to read. Plus, if you have them saved on your computer, you can always reprint them in case you lose your notes.

If you're worried about ink and paper, just type them at home and e-mail them to yourself (or save on a disk) and print from school. I NEVER print anything at home, my school has computer labs with printers and we're allowed to print anything we want (without taking advantage of it, of course, but no one checks).

My advice is always detrimental to students, but I can attest that you can succeed without taking notes, highlighting, using flash cards etc. Whatever works for you though.

You know, whether we want to or not, people at my institution are forced to pay $20.00 / semester for printed sheets. Use them or not. Don't get refunded for any unused dollars. I think it comes out to $0.05 / sheet of black and white print. Color printers are more expensive. I can't remember the amount, but it's over a nickel and less than a dime.

I take notes during lectures, then two days a week I spend A LOT of time (read 8 hours/day) in the library reading the chapters, making flash cards, relistening to the lectures, rereading the lecture slides, using my Saunders NCLEX review book and then doing the practice questions on the website and CD that came with the textbook we use. I found out that study groups do not work for me AT ALL. I made my lowest test grade of the semester the week I tried a study group. Anyways, this method has worked out for me REALLY well. I've got a strong B in the class and a good grasp of the material.

Oh okay. I understand. I didn't go to a study group today because I knew that I had to spend all day reading and making my notes for my exam tomorrow. Study groups works for me BUT only if I have read all the material and understand what I am doing, other than that I rather stay home or go to a library and study. But thanks for the tips. Something else to consider! :)

I read the book and highlight first, than I hand write notes frome that information, than I condense that information and keep condensing in hand written notes until I get the basics on a few pages and just process repeating the notes to condense them makes me learn it ...
