Did you take the test yet?
How similar is the "actual" test compared to the $10 NLN test they tell you to buy?
Is the $10 NLN test exactly like the actual test?
Was the study guide they give you any help?
Thanks. Please reply soon. Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
I have to take the NYP pharm exam with little time to prepare and without any directions from HR on what to expect. I just know what I have learned on these posts.
Can someone please tell me the link where I can purchase these NLN practice tests everyone is talking about? I can't find any info about it by just visiting the NLN site.
Please help ASAP. Thanks!!!

Hi! Did you take the exam? I'm sure you passed. :)
I have to take it too and was given little direction as to how and what to study. Any advice would be most appreciated!
Thank you! Congrats on the job!

Congrats to both of us, actually! Will you be working at Cornell or Columbia? I was given no direction besides that practice test and pharm test guidelines sheet. First of all, when do you take the test? Someone on this board was a recent hire at Columbia, like me, and sent me the name of the book they suggested to her called Pharmarcology Reviews and Rationales by Prentice Hall Nursing. The main author is Hogan. But I really didn't like that book. It was 600+ pages, way too in depth about each medication in each class and their practice questions were much harder than anything you'll see on the test.
I had a week to study and I used the book that came with my Kaplan NCLEX prep course book and skimmed the medication chapters in Saunders Comprehensive review. The Kaplan book is really good and to-the-point, the meds are studied by class and the section is about 84 pages. If you are a new grad or know someone who took the course, I highly recommend it. My friend at Cornell had suggested this and she also thought the test was easy.
The dosage questions are very easy. Make sure you are comfortable with them. The test is exactly like the practice test. When I took the test there were other new hires there who said that the test has a high first-time fail rate but they had all passed first try. Probably because I studied for four days straight, I recognized all the meds and thought it was straightforward. There was an experienced nurse who took it with me and she didn't pass.
But the new hires were telling me that if you don't pass you get a handout on what you got wrong and then you take the same exact test. But, since I am hearing that secondhand, I don't know it that's a rumor.
Hope this is helpful and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! You can private message me.
Good luck!

Hi and thank you! :redbeathe
I will be at New York Pres.
Thanks for the advice! I found out today that I will be taking the PEDS exam, so I'm really worried. My PEDS Pharm knowledge is very basic. I guess I'll read the PEDS sections of as many books as I can. I'm relieved that we can see what we got wrong and take it over if need be. But hopefully I won't need to do that.
You've been a big help! Thank you!
p.s. If anyone can offer any advice on the PEDS exam, I'd sure appreciate it! Good luck everyone!
hi again!
Turns out that I'm taking the Basic Proficiency exam instead. Phew! Using all of your suggestions everyone and thank you! :)
oops I meant I'll be at Columbia, lol

I am a professor of nursing at a local college . Stop looking for answers to tests ... you are only cheating yourself and your future patients.....There are many study guides available at the bookstore or online... I SUGGEST YOU PURCHASE ONE!!!
If I knew who you were...I would block you from getting in to Nursing School........
