Night Nursing program

Published

Hello,

I am looking to change my major from Health Information Technology to Nursing but the only problem I have is that I can't seem to find a good school to attend that will allow me to go at night because I work during the day. Does anyone know of any GOOD schools that have a night program? Please help me out. Thanks! Oh I must add that I am in Memphis TN.

Welcome to AN! By night, do you mean evening or overnight? In my area (not TN), we have evening programs for those who work during the day, but I am unaware of any programs that are late night.

There are a few resources you can use to find schools: TN BON should have a list of approved programs. ACEN and CCNE, the two national bodies accrediting nursing programs, have search functions on their websites. After that, it's pretty much going to be footwork on your end- going to those schools' websites to see if they offer part time options or calling if their websites do not specify.

The above poster is correct. There are few actual programs that offer night programs. A lot if it has to do with the clinical component. Checking the Bon website to find an accredited program.

Do not look at for profit unaccredited program. They wil tell you oh we are accredited by the national school of health sciences!! That means nothing. You need one approved by ACEN as the above poster has stated. That is important to be able to find a job afterwards.

You may need to save some money up to cut down on hours at your current job or find a night job as most programs are during the day.

Keep in mind that while you might find a program that offers the classroom work in the evenings, it is not likely that clinicals will be in the evening. Most of the daily routine patient care, lab draws, testing, etc., occur on the day shift.

Exactly. That evening program in my area requires daytime clinical studies every other weekend. There are also clinical requirements occasionally during the weekday where the students are expected to make arrangements to be available.
