While in clinical yesterday in newborn nursery (being a guy, we get stuck there a lot during our OB/L&D rotation due to husbands and patients not wanting us to see the goods), I was told by the department director that she'd allow me to do my 160 hour preceptorship in her nursery next semester.
Talk about making my day.
I plan to shoot for a NICU position when I graduate, and this lady agreed with me that I'd be well served to spend this time learning what normal, WELL babies look and sound and act like, and carry that experience with me into whatever NICU internship I happen to be lucky enough to get into.
Yar!
(Unfortunately, the hospital kind of sucks, and I don't really have any interest in working there full time, but the chance to precept there will be too delicious to pass up. )
