This site is great! I wanted to know if anyone could answer my questions. I am starting my CNA training at A LTC july 9th and its 16 days long, now i wanted and been wanting to get into LPN. i worked as a PCA for about 6 months and loved being around people. But for some reason when i took the LPN test it was computerized i didnt pass the math part. I know basic math but its harder for algebra and ect for me. Now does anyone think once i go thru the CNA ill have a better understanding of math and when i go to take the LPN written entrance exam, ill understant it better? Any Input would be helpful thanks!

I'm not so sure working as a CNA will help you with the math you need for school. Have you considered taking a math course at a community college to brush up on your math skills?
No i havnt. maybe i should consider that lol. Thanks!

Working as CNA don't make math any easier. I took my entrance test for LPN school only to find that the State I live in require a score of 11 in all areas....You have to be fast in answering those questions on the computer otherwise you may have to retest.

Well I'm in a CNA Progeram now and the only math that I had to use was for the intake and output, but thats just basic math.

I had no math except the intake and output in my CNA training. I very rarely have to use math as a CNA, so no on the job experience. I had to take Algebra as a pre-req for the RN program i am hoping to get into.

The only math I've had to use in my CNA class was for intake & output (adding, subtracting, converting oz. to ml.) and measuring height (converting inches to feet or feet to inches).
Definitely not algebra!
If you're looking for a book to help you brush up on your math skills, I highly recommend you get a copy of Understanding Mathematics: From Counting to Calculus by Keith Kressin. It lays out everything and you can see how all the concepts connect together. It really helped me and I'm a HUGE mathophobe. (I think it's only available online though).
The LPN entrance test consist of Advanced Level Math.

Unfortunately, completing a CNA course will not improve your math scores, because math is not a requirement for the class. I would suggest that you take a continuing education class that covers basic math and algebra to meet that goal. You can practice over and over the math that they give in the class and maybe have tutoring to assist. Good luck!
