Newbie considering Bootcamp /Certification

Published

Just got hired as a Lvn for a large elementary school. In the interview they said there would be two of us. Now after a lot of paperwork and such the story changed.

I love busy. I love kids. My experience has been 8+ years of Urgent Care (3yrs) and Pediatric Home health (2yrs) as lvn. More past medical experience not licensed.

Being new to the field i have bizarre questions. Anticipating fears of not knowing enough on presentation to a child, or protocol. (Suggestions to calm kids fears n tears)

I feel $20 hourly is a bit low on the pay scale being a senior lvn as i presently make more ($30 w/out benefits). But i am researching and studying for the beginning of the school year August 21 my first day.

Finally to my point::::

Is CSNO worth the $800 membership? I mean $800 for one year membership but i just want the class that's a five hour drive away? $800 isn't in a family budget, getting the hubby to sign off on this could risk some serious arguments. I'm so desperate for a school nurse boot camp.

Also, I'm the type that believes you have to set big goals. So is studying for the National School Nurses Certification a good investment for wage increase? Hire elsewhere? A feather? A title with little outside medical understanding? Great knowledge only?

Any tips for a seasoned vet who's feeling sheepishly all of the sudden would be much appreciated.

Not sure what CSNO is but you need to have your BSN to sit for the National School Nurse Certification Exam.

Good to know thank you for the update

Specializes in ICU/community health/school nursing.

How many kids are they talking about? You might consider joining the National Association of School Nurses. Good luck!

School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text by Janice Selekman is the "bible" of school nursing. It's around $50 at most online bookstores. HIGHLY recommend.
