New: Transcript requirement?

Hi,

We were told at my facility in PA that a "new policy" required a copy of our college transcript. I spoke to someone HR, and she said all employees must submit new copies of them. I have been searching the internet, but can't find any new JCAHO/Dept of Health requirements of this type. Anyone have any clue on this one?

Your help is appreciated!

All healthcare organizations have to conduct very thorough background checks for every new hire which includes validation of educational and professional credentials. My organization works with a 3rd party that verifies educational credentials, so it is not necessary for the employee to do this. However, if you obtain additional degrees afterward, you have to bring in a transcript so they can copy it and add it to your file.

I thought that this was unnecessary until I became aware of how many people try to pass off bogus educational credentials - sheesh. You honestly thought that paying them $X and filling out some forms about your 'life skills' was all it took to get a doctorate? - yeah, right.

There was something on (IIRC) 20/20 or a similar news report about the increasing number of "bogus" degrees being submitted by job applicants and or those already employed. This even went as far as to apply to those working for the federal government in some very high level jobs.

Apparently there are scores of degree mills out there that will for a fee furnish anything required. It is only after something goes down (which is what thinks prompted the investigative report) and some digging is done that the facts come out.
