Published

alright, so i've just been accepted into the bachelor of nursing which starts in 2 weeks.

i was just wanting to get a bit of a heads up and become familiar with what kind of content i should expect.

also, what can i start studying now?? i want good grades as i aim for post-grad study after and want to start becoming familiar with the content before university starts. if anyone could give me any links on material i should study or anything that would help that would be great. i have started studying anatomy, learned the cardiac cycle, different body systems and about different cells. what else??

Congratulations!!! :yelclap:

You are going to embark on a wonderful journey that is filled with joy, frustration, confusion, feelings of being over whelmed and wondering if you will ever be able to pull it off and graduate. Nursing is filled with highs and lows, fulfillment and frustration. Take one day at a a time, place one foot in front of the other......you will realize before you know it that you have graduated and still have a ton to learn. Don't put too much pressure that you become unnecessarily over whelmed, you will fell over whelmed without any extra help.

You will do fine. You have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run. When you need help we will be here. Now rest up, you will have plenty to do very soon. GoodLuck!!!

Being a NURSE means...

You will never be bored.

You will always be frustrated.

You will be surrounded by challenges.

So much to do and so little time.

You will carry immense responsibility

and very little authority.

You will step into people's lives

and you will make a difference.

Some will bless you.

Some will curse you.

You will see people at their worst...

and at their best.

You will never cease to be amazed

at people's capacity for

love, courage, and endurance.

You will see life begin...and end.

You will experience resounding triumphs

And devastating failures.

You will cry a lot.

You will laugh a lot.

You will know what it is to be human

and what it is to be humane.

I couldn't have said it better than Esme12. There isn't much you can study or prepare for right now. I don't know what classes you have taken up to now and how quickly the BSN students jump into care of patients. If I had known ahead of time that we would be spending the first 5 weeks on head to toe assessments and fundamentals, I may have read ahead but it will be way more fun to jump into the deep end with your cohort.

Specializes in CVICU / Open heart recovery.

If you only have 2 weeks before school starts I would suggest relaxing. You will spend the next 4 years with your nose in a book :-)

If you plan on going to graduate school I encourage you to take advanced science classes and math (particularly statistics). Also, learn to write really good research papers. You will do a lot of writing in graduate school and you want to be prepared.

I would start learning the mechanics of NCLEX style questions. That's one thing I wish someone had told me before I started my first nursing course. Instead of focusing on content, learn the types of questions that you will be presented with and strategy for how to work your way through them. You will get the content from your courses, but even for a student with great grades and a lot of previous coursework, I found I wasn't prepared for NCLEX style questions and I struggled with selecting the best answer from two or sometimes three choices that seemed correct. A lot of people recommend this book: Amazon.com: Fundamentals Success: A Q&A Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking (Davis's Q&a Success) (9780803627796): Dr Patricia Nugent, Barbara Vitale: Books

Besides familiarizing yourself with that, I would rest up, organize your room/house, hang out with friends, go to the movies, etc. Basically get everything out of the way and in order because in a couple of weeks you're going to be too busy for any of that!
