New nurse in a residency program looking for advice.

Hello,

Long story short, I was hired as a resident for night shifts. They started me on days and I loved it. However, once I switched to nights I felt horrible and my mental health became at an all time low. My body literally said no. I messaged my manger yesterday pretty much saying I can't do it anymore and was hoping there were some day shifts open. I have never heard of an RN doing this before and was wondering if anyone had some good luck out there? My manager has been active today on my email, but nothing directly sent to me following up about my problem/request. This is making me nervous. I really want to work for this hospital, but if I can't switch to days I will need to quit for my overall health. I am just starting my career and night shifts had made me hate what I do. Any advice or similar stories would be appreciative. Unsure what I will do if this doesn't work out. Thanks!

If your unit is like mine, the day shift positions are given based on seniority. There is probably several people with more seniority than you that wants to also get off night shift. Odds are that you are going to either have to stick it out until you have enough seniority to secure a day shift position or transfer to another unit that will hire you on day shift.

I heard you need to pay back if you quit if you are in the residency program. Maybe you could ask the manager if there are other options? or can they move you to other unit?
