So I've been offered a new NP job with a substantial raise. My hold up is I like my job now... Would it be appropriate to ask for a day of shadowing the lead NP to ensure I might like the job? Benefits are comparable. Hours will be 1p to 1 am, not my favorite but for $15 more an hour I could do it.
thanks,

I think it's totally appropriate, and a smart thing to do. It will help you get a sense of what the job is, so you can see if making the move is the right thing to do. Best of luck with your decision.

I'd look for shadowing at one and if unable to oblige ask for a thorough walk through of the work environment and a meet and greet for those who are there to supervise, manage, and facilitate. I'd then follow-up with a request for a raise at your present employer.
Follow up with a raise?? I don't like negotiating, but that's what current co-workers had mentioned

If you decide after shadowing that you are really willing to leave, you don't lose anything by going to your current employer and laying it out: I have a job offer for substantially better pay, but I really love my current position and wanted to give you the option to match the offer before I decide to leave. They can only say yes or no - as long as you aren't bluffing there's no downside to asking.

Great advice don't ever give an ultimatum unless you are willing to walk which is a good strategy for most things in life not just jobs.

Any updates?
Yes my job did offer some more money and they are trying to come up with a bonus/ productivity plan. They changed the job from "regular Ed" practice to a fast track. Not so sure I like it. Feel like I'm rushed cause they want them
in and out in an hour. This includes labs, X-rays, splinting, simple lacs ect.
I said yes to the new job slightly due to salary ( I can work 36-40 hours less a month and still make the same) but more so to be closer to home and weekend events.
Congrats! Being able to make more working less and closer to home is a big plus!

Canchaser,
How are you liking your new job? :)
Haven't started yet, just sent the credentialing packet last week. They expect me to start after the holidays.
