New to Hospice

Hello! Just sharing since I am so excited! I recently accepted a position as a case manager in hospice. I have felt guided to do this for years and finally worked up the nerve to put myself out there and give it a try.

I was an LPN for 7 years and have been and RN for 2 and a half. In that time I've done LTC/ Rehab, MDS, Medsurg and Dialysis. I've been reading the posts on advice for new CMs and taking it all in.

Anyway, just had to share! Wish me luck!

    Congratulations! I am also an LPN to RN graduate 2 1/2 years ago & I have been thinking about trying to get into hospice care. Please keep us updated on how it goes! Good Luck:)

    Congrats to you both. I also just today accepted a job as a Hospice Case Manager. I was an LPN for years, an RN now for 8 years, I have worked in all different areas but this is something totally different. I feel like I am compassionate to help people with there end of life needs, but am nervous about learning the things to say and do. Have either of you found an "Hospice" magazines to help you through? I enjoy reading about what I am learning to do.

    Good luck! You will know rather quickly if it is right for you. I started almost a year ago when the homecare agency i work for decided to start a hospice program and so far I love it. Just like any specialty there are ups and downs but at the end of the day you are truly making a difference at the most vulnerable time of a patient's life.
