New to Excelsior

Hi I am newly enrolled to Excelsior College and I have to take Anatomy and Micro and was looking for some guidance from anyone who has completed these classes. I am not sure how to even get started! Thanks for any input!

My primary study tool for micro and A&P was educationportal.com. It's an expensive pay site but it worked well for me. If you aren't a visual learner it probably won't be as big of a help to you. If you are a visual learner, it's phenominal. Watch each video, take the quiz at the end of each video and you pretty much got it. For hard stuff I would rewatch the video until I had the concepts down. I also used a book called MicroDemystified for Microbiology and I used Vangonotes for A&P.

Here's my advice, based on my experience. Microbiology was much harder than A&P. EC's A&P test was an easy one for me. The microbiology exam was one of the hardest tests I've had so far.

Good luck, I know it seems like a daunting task in front of you but it's not, I promise. It's very doable once you get started.

Make an investment in the practice exams.Yes micro was the hardest for me also but know as much as you can with micro, it will come back to haunt you in LS3.

Try studygroup101, the practice exams from EC, and youtube videos, the exams are not as difficult as you would think and very doable without spending a ton of money just by reading the material and using the practice exams as a study resource.

This is great info. Also I found some great Video on youtube by Dr. Mandi Parker. She is awesome and explains everything well!

Thank u for your input! I will certainly put it to good use!

Another alternative they pose now, rather than just the practice exam is Excelsior runs the classes on 8 week "Semesters" So if you're especially uncomfortable in one of them (for me Micro was awful, too bad they weren't classes when I did it) Take the class.

I would have loved to take a Microbiology course through EC instead of just being limited to the test option. I had taken an A&P class before so EC A&P was no big deal but my last science class was in high school over twenty years ago, that made the EC Micro exam feel like a more daunting task than it really was.

CLICK on this link from Excelsior--it will provide you with an "open resource" list for Microbiology education that will be the most helpful.

These specific resources are reviewed/approved by Excelsior.

This list is a terrific resource! Not just for Excelsior exam prep, but as a supplemental study resource for any program.

If it is authored by Mancini, it was the correct book (the last time I checked).

Yes it will work !
