NET prep questions

Published

I am cramming to take the NET test this week and have a few questions for some of you who have recently taken the exam yourself. So, here goes...

Are the math questions word problems or do they more closely resemble the questions at testpreview.com?

On the "reading"/comprehension portion, are the questions similar to the Kaplan review book with questions such as: "blank is to blank as blah is to blah" and "blank most likely means the opposite of blah"?

I actually just recently graduated with an AS in Paralegal Studies and took 2 pre-college algebra courses about 1.5 yrs ago; so, I am just trying to refresh my memory on that stuff. I am just wondering how tricky they make the questions. I tested beyond college level on reading and at college level in math on the CPT, but our local college requires the NET regardless of any other test or degree.

Thanks in advance for your input. Liz

The math questions were similar to those at testpreview.

Before I took the NET, I did one run-through of the math and reading practice tests at testpreview. The math I found very similar. The reading was the same style as the practice test only a little less straight-forward: i.e., I'd see two answers that seemed correct to me. Other people have commented that the real reading test was a little less straight-forward than the practice as well.

I haven't been in school since dinosaurs walked  but with your background, I'm sure you'll do fine.

The questions on testpreview.com were very similar to the ones on the test (as far as I remember). I only studied a few days before using that site and made an 80 something on it. The math was the worst part for me. I HATE ratios, percentages, and fractions and they were ALL on there. Overall, though it's not bad just take your time. They told me that it was more important to answer the questions correctly than answer them all, but I thought that the time allowed was more than adequate.

I am sure you'll do great! Good luck!

i think testprepreview.com is the closest one could get to the real net test... really close!

There is a test from Erie that is like the NET test. From what I understand it is a preview of the test. I had to pay $15.00 to take it, but it has stuff on it about reading comprehension, math, AND the grammar stuff they are looking for. Most of the other test previews didn't have a lot in the way of grammar on their practice tests.

When you are done with the practice test, it gives you a composite score and because it is the same type of test, only shorter, it can give you an idea of where you stand.

I take the test on Monday morning, so I will be able to compare then, but I will be studying from now until then. :) Good luck.

I personally thougt the math was ridiculously easy. I don't remember any word problems just ratios, percentages, addition, mulitiplication, 1 algebraic equation, decimals, find the value for X. I don't think it could get any easier.

However the reading is quite intense. It is not your average once upon a time type of story this is scientific reading.

Good Luck

I have taken the NET and it was tough, and I didnt pass . Im going to take it again in a couple of weeks. I do know that they dont allow you to take it again right away because it is the same exact test. NEways...anyone know about some loan forgivness programs for LPN's. I will be in the program this fall. I know I will!!

Thank you all for your input. I think I may be fretting too much over the math and not concentrating enough on the reading portion, but I do find it odd to study for the reading section. Or, maybe awkward is a better term; it just seems like you can't really study for that. You either comprehend or don't? I will just have to brush up on science reading as you guys say.

Thanks again. Liz

I think it's a little tough to explain about the NET. First of all, I got a NET book in the library, that was so full of stuff that wasn't even on my test. Then I found out the one at our community college was the one I should get. It was the ERI test. I figured, depending on where you go, you COULD have blank is to blah, as blah is to...( fill in the blank). This other book at word problems and had all sorts of advanced math problems in it.

I took my test last week and really do not expect good news. I didn't have enough time, and the computer shut down on me because I ran out. Here is what I'd do next time...

bring a watch. Not waste time on those that I'm immediately struggling with. Keep going, and then when I get to the end, click the box that says..."Show all unanswered questions".( keep tabs on what number I'm on)

I spent far too much time on a stupid division problem that I wasn't getting anywhere close to the answer choices and it was driving me nuts.

Ditto for the mixed fractions of another number and finding it's percentage. I struggled with those time and again on many practice tests.

I don't conceptualize math, and I never have. It was the thing my parents had to keep going to conferences for because I was doing so poorly. I've never changed. Especially when testing.

For those of you that thought it was ridiculously easy....here's to you!

But Hey! I have alot of other strengths that far outweigh a Math deficit!

I'm a great surg tech, and I have doctors requesting me on the schedules all the time. So, it'a lot about what you bring to the table in personality...do people ENJOY working with you? I get requested in the eye room because of my steady hands, yes...BUT, I also know that me and the eye surgeon have a repore going on that is worth almost everything.

WE have FUN! Doctors aren't oblivious. They are very intuitive people, and that's why they do what they do. They feel vibes, can almost guess what your thinking, and it takes an almost emotional intelligence more than a academic one to really make it in the medical field.

So...don't beat yourself up over a silly test that really doesn't prove anything other than an ability to regurgitate information you took in somewhere else. It is about so much more...

Just look at it for what it is...a way to get in to nursing school, if they INSIST!:D
