NET & Study Time

I am debating whether I should take my NET now or later? I have not studied for it and it's 1 month from now. I was thinking of hitting the books for this month but I am not sure if this would be enough. I know that alot of other things factor into this like my knowledge of math, reading etc...... but I would like to know from those of you who have taken it, how long did you study before taking the exam and did you pass first time around? I can only take it twice in this school and I don't want to blow one of the chances, but on the other hand the next exam wont be for another 6 or 7 months.... prolonging my wait.... once again on top of all the pre-req I have taken :uhoh21: :uhoh21:

If you honestly do not feel prepared for it now then I suggest you wait. I did not take the NET but did take the NLN and like you could only attempt it twice. I did not prepare well for it and just went and took it. I passed it but not with the desired score. Hopefully it will be enough for me to get in the program.

I took the NET 2 weeks ago. I think a month is plenty of time to study for it, especially if you have a good basic understanding of math and reading comprehension. If your school has the NET study guide, go check it out and take a look at the types of questions you will be asked. If you feel you need more than 1 month to review and be prepared, wait. If you feel like you could study enough in the next month to do well, then go for it. I studied for a week, and I got a 92 overall. Remember that at most schools, it's not whether you pass or fail - it's how well you do. You're aiming for the highest score possible. At my school, there's no hope of being competetive if you have less than a 75, so it's best to try to get the highest score possible. Good luck!

I say NET but it is the NLN pre entrance exam . I heard that they are basically the same though. I am not sure what the passing grade is though. By the way did the NLN exam have science?

Sure did have science. Lots of Chemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology and Biology.

The review guide does help but I will be honest with you, it is not easy. If you can dedicate the entire month faithfully you should be fine. I don't want to tell you to do it or not because only YOU know what to do.

From what I was told the difference is the NET does not have any science on it. Just math and reading/english.

Thank you very much for your insight. I am rusty on my science's and I dont like math. Though I have passed my science and math classes, I always have that unsure feeling about them. I will post my decision. Thanks:specs:

Exactly. I think the NET is probably much easier than the NLN or the HESI because of this.

As for the OP: If you do not feel comfortable, don't take it yet. I guess it all depends on when you need to take it by. Are you just starting your pre-reqs? 6 months down the line will you have already applied?

Just decide what will be best for you. Good luck either way. :)

I was told 7th, 8th grade math. She (admissions) also told me to study up on Ratio's, percentages, decimals, fractions, and conversions. She said there is alot of math on the test, but nothing higer than basic algebra. I was told that I need 64% to pass. Hope this information is helpful.

I cannot speak for the NLN (which I hear is much harder than the NET d/t the fact that it has science on it), but on the NET test, the questions for math were fairly simple. There were a number of simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. There were questions regarding addition and division of fractions and decimals. Ratios and percentages were also a portion of the test. There were also some basic algebra - reducing the equation to the simplest form possible, solving for x, etc. etc. Not too bad. If you don't have a good grasp on mental arithmatic, make sure to brush up, because calculators are not allowed. I know some people take a computerized version and the computer may have a calculator on it, but I took the written version, and no calculator! Good luck whatever you decide!!
