Has anyone started to apply for the Nurse Corps loan repayment program? I wanted to see if anyone is having trouble using the application at all?

I am a Nurse, Score was 19. Based on the research I did it the higher the debt to income % and higher your facility score, and of course as long as your faciility is a Tier 1. I did not see anyone that was a Tier 2 get the award in the past. But that does not mean it is not possible. I will say it is the most excruciating 7-8 months waiting for the award notifiacation, I am so thankful for the grant. I wish everyone could get the money. The one indicator is when they email you in June or after asking for your banking information. That email is your golden ticket. Unless you have a major issue I only heard of 1 other person not getting the award after receiving the email requesting banking information, and that was only because he has a child support issue. My request for my banking infomation came end of June. It is not a 100% guarantee by any means, but I spent hours and days researching past years posts. I feel for each and every one of you its a long process and the grant means so much to each of us. Please contact me if you have any questions, basically just apply and wait not much else you can do, you should see a credit check inquiry, and then an email requesting banking info, sometime after May. Check you spam folder also. If anyone else has info please correct me or add. I am only speaking from my experience last year. It is horrible I know.

You are correct, also it talks about governement loans, like and FHA loan that was a foreclosure, but I know someone who has an FHA loan that was a foreclosure from 2011, and she received the award. My HPSA is 19, and my Debt to income is 180%, I received the award last year. I believe they will do a credit check and then that will determine if you have any issues, bad credit, unpaid credit cards, or medical bills, those dont matter, its only goverment debts they care about. You will then receive the email asking for you banking information, that is the email that almost guarantees you the award, almost I said, I can't confirm 100%, please dont attack me, if anyone knows otherwise please share, I was only able to confirm 1 person in the past few years that was denied after receiving that email. I had bad credit at the time, lots of unpaid items and a low score, i have since fixed all that, thanks to the grant.

This too is my 2nd year applying. Last year I completed my application on the deadline day. I remained "under review" until the very end. For those of you who had contact through this blog and were also still "under review", noticed that the night of the "Government Shutdown", we all received rejection notifications the very next morning. Either funds were gone, or it had something to do with the shutdown. However, this year my application was in by day 3 of the application opening. A co-worker of mine said it took her 2 tries before receiving the award. She said that the 2nd time around, she too had her application in very early. I know we are all in the same boat together praying that this year we will hear great news! Some whom were awarded last year heard as early as June and July. Hoping the best for all of us!!! :)

Pbflash42, did you end up with a credit check on your report either year?

Not to my knowledge. I kept trying with Credit Karma & Quizzle but had trouble seeing where the inquiries were coming from.

so I called and fortunately/unfortunately, everyone gets a credit check. So I guess it's good if you have one - meaning you didn't mess up your application and it didn't go in the "trash" bin, but it doesn't "mean anything" in terms of who is more likely to get the award.

At least it means the applications are good after sending so much time on them.

Were they helpful when you called?

Does it effect our credit if we check daily for any inquiries?

I use credit karma, which will update once a week without harming your credit score. There's a website as well an app. I think you're entitled to one free report annually from each credit bureau.

Hello,

I was just wondering if the HPCSA score on the website up to date and accurate? The reason being is that my hospital's score is supposedly an 8 buuuut I know that there have been coworkers that have gotten the loan repayment in the past. If our score was really an 8 that would make the tier bracket a lot lower correct? I just want to make sure that I am categorizing myself into the right tier.

It says "as of 4/1/14" at the bottom of the page; my facility is still the same at 17.
