Needs some advice

hello, anyone that can help, please i don't know where to turn. i am currently a cna, i haven't worked as a cna for several years, i just got done taking my reffresher course so that i can start looking for a job. but i have always wanted to do work in baby and mother or labor and delivery, or even something along those lines. i don't think anyone hires cna's in those areas do they? because if so that would be a great way to find out if that's what i want to presue. i have thought about going to school for sono tech. i just really don't know where to go or what to do, i am looking for some advice from anyone that is willing to help me out. help me please!

You might luck into a CNA job in the baby/mother area but if there is nothing there work as a CNA somewhere, anywhere, to get some experience to put on your resume. Consider working part time while you take the sono tech class. Yes, you can work nights and take classes during the day. Good luck.

Don't you have to take the x-ray tech class before you can even start to take the sono tech?

Specializes in Cardiac.

No xray tech and sonography are two different things. You should look for OB tech jobs, sounds like you would qualify for that. They are usually CNA/stocking type jobs. Good Luck.

You can work asa CNA in postpartum or try OB tech in Labor and Delivery

Thank you all so much see I didn't know they did that. I would love to work in OB. ahh I am going to go search all the hospitals right now.

Ok so it seems that in my area ob techs have to be scrub techs as well. So that wont work out, But thank you all so very much for the suggestions. I have my heart set on Labor and delivery so I will keep trying.

I work on a mother/baby unit as a "patient care technician" (we used to be called nurse techs). It's very similar to a CNA (which I was for 8 years), but doesn't require state certification, just hospital-provided training. It doesn't pay quite as well, but it's much more pleasant than the nursing home I used to work for.

I'm also getting to stay there in a RN position when I graduate next month:yeah:

Our labor/delivery unit is completely separate from mother/baby and doesn't use techs, just "certified surgical technicians" (similar to your scrub techs, I'm guessing). Is there more than one hospital in your area? Maybe they have different staffing...

Yes it is possible, I am looking at all the hospitals in the area, but I am just looking on there websites as to what they currently have open. There are very few in ob to begin with, So I am guessing that the people they do have like it so well they are not going anywhere. :) I am assuming they don't have near the turn over rate as a nursing home. I am not going to give up, I am just going to keep looking every day. Thank you all again for the advice. It is very helpful. :p
