Needs some advice
Yes it is possible, I am looking at all the hospitals in the area, but I am just looking on there websites as to what they currently have open. There are very few in ob to begin with, So I am guessing that the people they do have like it so well they are not going anywhere. :) I am assuming they don't have near the turn over rate as a nursing home. I am not going to give up, I am just going to keep looking every day. Thank you all again for the advice. It is very helpful.

Ok so it seems that in my area ob techs have to be scrub techs as well. So that wont work out, But thank you all so very much for the suggestions. I have my heart set on Labor and delivery so I will keep trying.

Advice about working in the Emergency Room
I have never done any of that except the Vital signs and the ADL's. Is poking someone just something to have to do and practice to get over the fear of hurting them, because I think if I could get over the fear and do it well they would like the fact that I understand it is scary and sometimes painful. I didn't learn anything new while working in the nursing home, the only new things I did learn were how to transfer a pt. with a mechanical lift by yourself (I know you aren't suppose to do this, but they made us) and I learned with the help of the resident how to change a bag (I'm not sure the name of it, he was paralyzed from the wast down and for some reason they did a surgery that was kind of like having a colostomy bag but it was for urine and it was on his stomach) anyway he liked to twist the bag for what reason I don't know but he would twist that darn thing off every day sometimes twice a day. So with his help I learned how to put the new one on. Nothing as exciting as IV's and blood draws.

Advice about working in the Emergency Room
Wow, Sounds like they trained you to do a lot. Yes I know Cna's in any place are low man on the totem poll. that may just be something I will look more in to. That way I would know if I want to go on and just get my RN. thanks for all the info.

Don't you have to take the x-ray tech class before you can even start to take the sono tech?

give Caths that was the other thing. Is it fun, and interesting. Because I did work in a nursing home and although I loved my residents. Doing the same old thing everyday was kind of boring. I love Adrenalin rushes.

CNA class at Kansas College of Nursing?
I just got done with my reffresher course at Kansas college of Nursing. And I would like to let you know it is a very good school to go to. The teacher that teaches the C.N.A. class was watching over our class for a while and he is great. He taught us things that I never did learn in my original C.N.A. class. Not saying I didn't love my first class because I did (I went to Kansas City Kansas Technical school). If you are thinking of getting your C.N.A. I would say that would be a good place to go if it is close to your house. I personaly think it is a good ideal to get it before you become a nurse and work as a C.N.A. as well because then when you become a nurse you can better work with your C.N.A.'s under you because you know what it is like to do the work they do everyday. Nursing isn't always a team thing but it should be, we should be able to work well with our nurses. It makes the day so much better when you have a great nurse.

Getting back into the C.N.A. world, just wondering where to look for a job.
Thank you, I am very willing to learn anything they would like to teach me, If they could teach me to get over my fear of neddles I would love to be able to draw blood and stuff like that, But I am kindof a softy so I don't want to hurt anyone. But I know if I could do it well that people would enjoy that they weren't hurt. Because you know there are just those people who can draw blood really well and those who can't. I would like to go to school to be higher up on the food chain than a c.n.a. but I just don't know which way I want to go so I was hoping that I could get in a doctors office and maybe that would help me decide in which direction I wanted to go. I would love to do something with mother and baby or in the nursery. Or Like i said above I would like to be an x ray tech or a sonographer.

Is It Bad To Ask For Help When Caring For a Heavy Patient?
I agree with asking for help, I think that yes sometimes it is silly to ask for help if it is a very small pt but at the same time I fell so much better when there is two people there. I hurt my back on a large pt, the nursing home I worked at didn't always do things the correct way. We had a lift that we could have used on him but he reffused, we didn't have a gait belt big enough to go around him so we were told we just had to pull on him from all different directions. This ended up giving me a back injery at the age of 20, It was nothing to bad but it has made my back so much more prown to problems. I personaly think that it should be manditory for two people if it is over a sertain weight or if they are unable to help at all. But we all know that not all places are willing to pay enough people to have someone there to be avalible to help. This is one reason why I am looking to work at a hospital or a doctors office, rather than another nursing home.

Getting back into the C.N.A. world, just wondering where to look for a job.
hello everyone, i am new to this site so i am trying to figure it out. i currently have my c.n.a. license (in kansas) but it is not up to date, so i will be taking a reffresher course next week so that i can be up to date with the state. i am looking to get a c.n.a. job, but i am not sure were to look. i would prefer a hospital or a doctors office, but all i can ever find are nursing homes and home heath. i worked in a nursing home several years ago and it was not a good exsperience for me. i am defanitly a team player, i would love somewhere that i would be able to work with others. does anyone have any advise for me? i may eventully try to go further with my schooling but right now i am just trying to get back in the swing of things, and get my feet under me. any advice from anyone would be greatly appriciated!!! thank you so much for any help anyone can give!
