I am taking Micro this fall. I was wondering if there was any "pre-studying" anyone would recommend so that I could go into the class feeling more solid? Or anything that was a lifesaver to them while taking the class? Thanks!

I suggest that you find out what book your professor is using and find a copy of their syllabus and read every single chapter that you guys will be going over. If you guys are using the Tortora book, I suggest using that website and do their quizzes and practice test. It was really helpful for me. And if your having problems with any of the concepts (Lac operon, dna replication, viral infections, etc.), use the mcgraw hill website for their animations...those videos are really good and everytime that I was confused that site made it super simple:

It's free unlike Tortora's site and the watered down version of micro at my school uses that book. Umm if you can find the powerpoints or outline that your instructor uses, I suggest going through those as you read. I am almost done with micro and I did all of those things and micro is suppper easy right now because of this. You cant really prepare for lab, but you should just understood the concepts behind like gram stain and like streak plating, inoculations, because lab is like that all day. Oh yeah, one last thing: the concepts in micro are incredibly easy, most of it is basic biology at the "micro" level so if you already know about dna replication, protein synthesis, cellular respiration, etc. then the first half of micro will be cake. The last half is like diseases, but this is how my school does it (with an emphasis on medical micro) GL

I took Micro last semester and it was quite odd, because it's the only college class I've ever taken where the prof decided to take all test questions off the notes, and made the book optional... and to be honest, I wouldn't have needed the book anyway! I was quite nervous about Micro before I took it, but it really isn't too bad. Without the book, my prof still made the tests pretty difficult and I still got an A.
My advice would be to make sure you read into the details, for example, we learned about Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, and the difference between the two is their cell wall content... things like that are drilled into your head by the end!
Good luck to you!

Its less memorization than anatomy though....50-50 with concepts. Not that difficult either if you have some basic bio and chem.
