Need to interview a nurse!

Published

I don't live near the hospital and I don't have any on ground classes for awhile so I'm trying to find other ways to interview a nurse. I would appreciate any volunteer.

Ask the following questions:

a. Who did you interview and what is his/her role?

b. How would you describe the role of the nurse?

c. How do you use ANA’s Standards and Scope of Practice in your daily practice?

d. Do you think nursing receives honest and accurate portrayals in the media?

e. How do you believe nurses can change media perception?

f. Do you think the current pandemic has affected the public’s view of nursing? How?

It's due by Thursday so any answers would be nice.

a. Who did you interview and what is his/her role? I'm an ICU charge/floor nurse in a community hospital.

b. How would you describe the role of the nurse? Through utilization of the nursing process and development of a synergistic nurse-patient relationship, provide patient centered care to patients in the critical care environment. Optimize patient care for patients being treated for medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic and infectious disease conditions. Assess and identify patient problems/needs, establish a plan of care, implement and evaluate care provided to patients. (statement from resume)

c. How do you use ANA’s Standards and Scope of Practice in your daily practice? It's essential to understand the standards and scope of practice to ensure that competent care is provided that is appropriate for the nursing role.

d. Do you think nursing receives honest and accurate portrayals in the media? Depends on the media source. Sometimes nurses are portrayed as angels that have a higher calling to their work. In reality, very few if any of us would do it if it didn't also support us. For the most part we do take our work very seriously, because people's lives are on the line.

e. How do you believe nurses can change media perception?

I don't know that media perception needs to be changed as it is.

f. Do you think the current pandemic has affected the public’s view of nursing? How?

We got more publicity for a while and some more gratitude from the public. Now I think that things have gone back to normal regarding our perception.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to answer this! ?

Ask the following questions:

a. Who did you interview and what is his/her role? An RN who works outpatient chronic dialysis nursing

b. How would you describe the role of the nurse? In my role, I supervise and assist in carrying out routine dialysis of patients who are in End Stage Renal Disease, needing dialysis 3-4 times weekly. I supervise technicians who initiate, monitor and termiate treatment, caring for anywhere from 7 to 16 patients under my license.

c. How do you use ANA’s Standards and Scope of Practice in your daily practice? Understanding my scope/responsiblities as outlined in State Nurse Practice Acts is critical in my daily performance and assessment duties

d. Do you think nursing receives honest and accurate portrayals in the media? NOT EVEN CLOSE!

e. How do you believe nurses can change media perception? We have tried for decades and in some cases succeeded, others failed. We have been consistently voted "most trusted profession" which is great, but we are not the "most RESPECTED profession" which says more to me. We have been portrayed as angels and also, alternatively, as "sluts" chasing doctors for husbands,  in many areas of social and tv media.

f. Do you think the current pandemic has affected the public’s view of nursing? How? They call us "heroes" which I am very uncomfortable with. I am an everyday nurse doing my best with the resources provided me (which can fall short often) to operate safely in this current pandemic. I know most of the public appreciates our efforts during this difficult but they cannot begin to appreciate how difficult it really is. They never will unless they are health care providers themselves.

Hope this helps.
