Need information

Does NGCSU give a good financial aid package. I do not see anything in regards to nursing scholarships like GPC advertise. Does NGCSU offer any service cancelable loans where do you have to work? Also in another post regarding NGCSU I notice that it was said that you might have do your OB clinicals I believe 6-12 or 1-5 can you choose. Or do they go by what side of town that you live on? Have anyone starting working in the program if so was it in the hospital?

GCSU does have a service cancellable loan you can apply for. You can go to their website and look on the Financial Aid page for directions. Get it in as early as you can for consideration.

As for OB clinicals, you will do seven weeks of OB clinicals at the hospital, and the hours are normally 6:30am until 2:30pm on both Monday and Friday. On Wednesday you will have Peds and OB lecture at either 8 - 12 for the entire semester. Then, your last semester you will have Med/Surg and Psych lecture from 1 - 5 on Wednesday's for the entire semester. We did not get to pick which rotation we took for Fall semester and Spring semester. I hope this makes sense to you - it can be a bit confusing. I have Med/Surg and Psych rotation this Fall. I will not know which clinical I will do first until classes start.

NGCSU has a great financial aid department. I found them to be very helpful. I actually applied for and got the Georgia Service Cancelable loan. With this loan, I don't have to work for any certain hospital - I just don't have to pay it back as long as I work as a nurse in the state of Georgia. OB is the ONLY class that you are allowed to choose your clinical site. The hours are all the same though: 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Monday and Friday. There are three OB sites to choose from: Habersham, Northeast GA Medical Center, and Northside Hospital in Atlanta. :)

Luckly for me I am passing going into the final next week so I feel pretty good about actually getting pinned!!!!

Congrats to you on your Pinning/Graduation!!! I have a friend that graduated from there 2 years ago and LOVED IT!! I should have listened to her and gone there instead of GPC......but at least it is almost over and by the grace of God I have actually (almost) made it!

Northside Hospital would be the closest hospital to me being though I have get to my small kids both 1 yr and 3yr old if my husband is away on business? Has anyone have ran into this problem with clinical sites?

I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to that question. Lanier Tech/Forsyth campus is a new location. The previous class was located in Acworth and went to Kennestone/Wellstar. I'm not sure which hospital they will use for clinicals. But I'm pretty sure they do not take where you live into account.

Sorry, they really don't take into consideration where you live. For example, I live one exit from Northside Forsyth Hospital, but they sent me to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for Med/Surg. However, you can be somewhat aware of where you will be:

Psych: Laurelwood (Gainesville) or Peachford (Atlanta)

OB: You get to choose!! The three to choose from is Habersham, Northeast GA Medical Center, or Northside (Atlanta)

Med/Surg: Northside Forsyth, Northeast Georgia Medical Center, or Chestatee (Dahlonega)

Peds: You WILL GO to one of the following: Scottish Rite or Egleston

These are the sites used by the Dahlonega/Gainesville Campus. Since you are on a new campus located in Forsyth County, I think they must be doing away with the Cobb locations because that is far to drive from that campus.

Many of our students are older and have children and husbands who travel, so they aren't able to accomodate childcare issues. But the good thing is, our schedule is pretty much set in stone and you know when you have to make arrangements way ahead of time!

You are so right!! I was chatting with a GPC student. I just didn't want to mention the program because I didn't want to offend any GPC students!! That poor girl was so upset!! She said she is sick to her stomach, throwing up, and just generally miserable! It is such a shame too, because she seems to be very intelligent and on the ball. I feel so bad for her! We were all running around happy because it was our last clinical day and she was so sad! You should be very proud of yourself - it is quite an accomplishment to make it through that program! Congratulations!!:balloons:

All of the NGCSU students who have posted seem to be happy and not stressed out. Are you all the minority or the majority at North GA. Do you know at what point they will let us know our schedule? Do you recall if any lectures start before 9:00 am?

You know you can't please everyone, so I'm sure there are some with complaints about NGCSU, but I've never met anyone who is unhappy. We do have some stressful moments in our program - this week alone we have taken 6 computerized ATI tests including a comprehensive one today over the entire nursing program! Nursing school is stressful no matter where you go! The first year of nursing school at NGCSU, lecture starts at 9:00 a.m. (unless they have changed it!). Then you also have lab the first seven weeks for one day per week - you have to be there at 8:00 a.m. for that. Then you start clinicals the second seven weeks - you will have to be at the hospital by 6:30 a.m. on those days. Second year - one semester you will have lecture from 8:00 a.m - 12:00 noon and one semester you will be in the 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. section. Lecture is on Wednesday. On Mon/Fri, you will have clinicals beginning at 6:30 a.m. You will get your actual schedule late in the summer during orientation. Good Luck!!

I KNEW IT!!! It could have only been a student from GPC....

I feel really bad for the people that are struggling too! I wish there was something that I could do to help them....but honestly I have no idea how I have made it this far so I am no help to them!
