Need information on moving to Oregon

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had information on moving from Arkansas to Oregon? I am aware that Oregon is not one of our compact states and am hoping to get my license by endorsement. We are needing to move by the end of next year in order to get our daughter enrolled in the Tucker/Maxon Oral Deaf School.

I graduated from a diploma program in December of 2005. Worked approx. 6-8 months in the pool at a mid-sized hospital then transfered back to the CVOR. I have been a circulator and amateur second scrub (Our heart team is small so I don't get to scrub very often.) for close to 5 years now. Will not have any problems getting letters of recommendation from everyone, including our main heart surgeon. What advice can you give me on getting my Oregon license, where to work (doesn't have to be heart OR), where to live, ect.? I am open to any and all help. My husband and I are just now starting to research everything. Oregon looks like a beautiful place to live. :)

    Corvallis has a regional trauma center as well as a heart center, which is located right in the middle of the Willamette Valley. It has a small-town atmosphere combined with big-city services if that's what you're looking for. But if you want city life, Portland, Salem, and Eugene also have big hospitals. The weather is gloomy and rainy much of the year, but our summers are worth every grey day---they are perfection itself with average temps in the low 80s and a long dry spell that usually runs from mid-July through September and some years even well into October. Winters are generally cool and wet, with daytime temps averaging in the mid-40s and the occasional big snowstorm or wind storm for variety.

    Jobs are not plentiful here, and Salem Hospital is going for Magnet status so they are not hiring nurses without a BSN unless you're in progress and can obtain the degree within a year or so. But if you check the lesser-known job boards such as Indeed.com and CareerBuilder, you'll find a good number of OR jobs open right now in Western Oregon.

    Thank you for the info. We are looking forward to nice summers, Arkansas has been like living on the face of the sun. Do you think that I would have better luck if I only need about 3o-32 hours a week?

    Adventist Medical Center is hiring for the OR they are hiring full and part - time, they are also hiring for cardiac/medical recovery and for critical care resource pool

    Adventist is located in Portland on the East side close to the airport and Gresham.

    The Portland metro area and it's surounding areas ( Milwaukie, Oregon City, Happy Valley, Tigard, Tualitin, Beaverton) are genrally good places to live, 2 hours from the beach, 2 hours from Mt. Hood

    We were actually looking at Beaverton because it's close to the school for my daughter.

    Is public transit easy to navigate there? I would LOVE for us to be able to get down to 1 car.

    There is a MAX line I believe that runs through that area, I am not sure I generally do not like driving around in Beaverton. If Beaverton is where your daughters school is located I would look at hospitals on the west side, which would be Providence St. Vincent, OHSU, and Tuality.

    Jobs in Vancouver are plentiful (a 45 minute drive from Beaverton). You may want to get your Washington license as well.
