I am a full time student getting ready to apply to nursing school. I am a veteran and work part time with other vets who are also in school.
One of my coworker just got accepted into an accelerated RN program.
She is a single mom, who lives off of her GI Bill and her workstudy pay. We are so proud of her and I would like to buy her something that will make her smile.
I need ideas on what I can get her. I've looked at lanyards and pens and things but I would really like something unique.
I'm on a budget but I will splurge for her $50 or more because this is her dream.
Any ideas would be great appreciated.

I find getting a gift certificate to a local uniform store very appropriate. We buy one for each of our employees when they start and finish nursing school. If you want to do something unique how about a name pin with her name and student nurse attached. My mil gave me one years ago and though I don't wear it now I still have it and it reminds me of her support for me back then.

there are very nice badge pins you can get......it's something she can put on everyday and remember the support of real friends! it's so nice of you to want to do that for her! :redbeathe

While in school I received a pin with my name and RN BSN on it although I was just a freshman. I still have it and treasure it greatly.

As a current student I can tell you that books have been the biggest struggle. I don't know what the GI Bill covers as far as books go...but if they don't cover them or only cover the required books, then a GC to Barnes & Noble or the campus bookstore might be nice. There are several reference books listed that are not technically required for my course..but I could not do without.
Another idea for something more personal would be to look for a very nice tote bag. She will use this! Ha! Running from clinical to hospital to home. Also, there are really neat things at some of the uniform websites. Totes, pins, pens, etc.
One thiong I bought for clinical is a clip board that is incorporated into a storage container. I know I am explaining this poorly...but mine is plastic with the metal clip on the front, then it opens to allow for storage of papers inside. There is even a compartment for pens and pencils. I love mine and have found it to be a great help in clinicals...but it was under $10.00 at Office Depot. I am not sure if they have nicer ones available. You could do a gift that has one of these and a box of black pens, highlighters, a nice mechanical pencil (for math!), and those little sticky tabs for marking places in books. Along with some cute nursing themed knickknacks you get from the uniform shops.
Your friend is lucky to have your support.
