Hey everyone,
I am in the middle of my research project for nursing school and am having a difficult time finding people to take my online survey. The people I am trying to target are women who: had a baby within the last six months, smoked cigarettes before or during pregnancy, and had any prenatal care. It is about a 15-minute survey.
I have it posted on a couple of parenting websites, including cafemom.com, kellymom.com, and about.com, but have just not gotten a great response. Any suggestions?
(Of course, if any of you fit the criteria and want to help me out, I would really appreciate it! You can find my survey here).
Thanks!

You will probably need to get IRB approval, but going to a postpartum unit should be a goldmine. Lots of people smoke who have babies, especially in tertiary institutions.
You could also try contacting the ANA to see if you can post your survey somewhere on their website. I had several formal classmates who were allowed to post their surveys on the AANA website.

I would try contacting various hospitals in this country, or OB/GYN doctors. In this day and age of taking information I believe the information already exhists. It is just a matter of getting to the data .

I found the above forum for mothers who are trying to quit smoking perhaps you can post a link there.

I qualify, except for the baby in the last six months part...he's 2 1/2 now. Sorry. :)
If you end up needing to change your demographics to include old moms like me, let me know!

Research recruitment is difficult, and the more criteria you have, the harder it gets. Why should these women give you 15 minutes of their time? Try framing your request in terms of potential benefit to them or future mothers. And make sure you have IRB approval, as others have said.
I do have IRB approval for the study. I have posted it to a few more forums with some success. I think my criteria does make it difficult to find participants, but I do not think I can change that now.
