Need help with GTPAL categorizing

Published

So, my question regards a postpartum patient who is part of an essay I'm writing for school. I'm a bit rusty with GTPAL categorizing, and I would appreciate any feedback. While I was caring for this patient, I read her chart and found out that this a gravida 3 mother. Her first pregnancy ended in abortion/miscarriage at 12 weeks, the second pregnancy resulted in fetal death at 34 weeks, and in her third pregnancy (this one) she delivered a healthy baby at 37 weeks 4 days.

How would that look in GTPAL format?

What's your answer/guess? Many here like to *help* with homework, but want to see your work first so we can see your train of thought and if/where you're going wrong. Very few will come along and outright answer homework/assignment questions for students.

We are happy to help but we need to know what your research has revealed to you. This is pretty straight forward.

  • G - Gravida. This is the number of times a woman has conceived, including any current pregnancy.
  • T - Term births. This is the number of times a woman has carried a pregnancy to at least 37 weeks gestation and delivered.
  • P - Preterm births. This is the number of times a woman has delivered before 37 weeks gestation, but after 20 weeks gestation.
  • A - Abortions. This is the number of times a woman has lost a pregnancy, whether it was elective or spontaneous (miscarriage), before 20 weeks gestation.
  • L - Living children. This term states 'living children,' but what it really is referring to is live births.
