hi everybody...im new in the forum and i need some help...
i was taking my prerequisites in a community college to get into the nursing program, but last semester i didnt do that well in my A&P lab and got a C... some friends told me that they dont accept students with less than a B in the program..my gpa is 3.30 at the moment and i still have to take 2 maths classes and A&P ll in order to apply for the program.
i thought about what my friend said and got really scared that i was just wasting my time finishing the preqs. and not knowing for sure if they were going to accept me... so i looked online for some schools..and i sign up for a Medical Assistant program( sanford-brown institute) with the hope of becoming an RN in the future which is my dream.
Classes start in 4 days and im not sure if make the right decision by quitting the community college????
can someone help me asap

To me your GPA sounds fine if you concentrate on the classes ahead of you and do the very best you can. Alot of programs will accept a C but no less than a C. Get a information packet about the program your looking at and others that may be close the packets will contain alot of information that you may be needing about certain programs.
Oh and I would NOT quit the community college...

Is Sanford Brown a for-profit institution?
If I were in your shoes, I'd look into nursing programs that have a minimum GPA requirement (seems like the norm is 2.75) and a waiting list. Depending on the strength of any particular year's applicants, a C may not break you (especially if you buckle down and receive grades of A in your other 3 courses).

Hold your head up high! A 3.3 is not that bad! Just do outstanding in A and P II and your math classes. You can bring it up to at least a 3.5. I had a friend that got into her program (ADN program) with a 3.43. Don't let go of your dream. You are going to make it! Don't settle for something you don't want to do!:)

i would stay at the community college. at the particular school i'm looking at as long as you have a c or above in any pre preq. you are able to apply to the nursing program. if i were you i'd talk to someone at your school and don't take every word from your friends. and if it is a b maybe you could re take the class?
i wish you the best of luck!
to be honest i wanted to stay at the community college but i was scared with the C and overwhelmed by the 4 science classes that i was taking at the same time...
i wonder if i can go back to HCC without any problems since i transfer my fincial aid to sanford-brown and got all the paper work ready with them to start next week????

At the few schools I have looked into, you have to get a B or better in A&P I and II and in Micro. If you have to, retake the class...it will be worth it! Do not let go of your dream over 1 class...you will def. get an A the next time :) And a 3.3 is good by the way :)
thanks shanny...
but they dont let me re-take the class if got a C...in order to re-take a class you need to get an F thats what they told me..

Please don't worry about what "other programs require", because you're not interested in those programs. You need to look at the programs in your area that you're interested in and find out what they will accept and not accept. Every program is different so it won't make sense telling you what my program requires.
If your program said C or better in Science, then you may be ok. For example, my program wants a C or better in the sciences, so when I got a C+ in Chemistry, I didn't retake it and not wasting the extra money to pay for retaking the class paid off because I got accepted into my program.
Wish you the best.
thanks...you are right..good luck to you too :)

I would drop the classes at stanford brown and go back to the community college. I feel like if you want to do nursing then you do what you have to do to get into the nursing program. your gpa is a 3.3 so thats pretty good. when you take them math classes and what ever other classes pratice and bust your but to come out with A's dont set yourself short. think hard and make a quick decision. good luck
is true what you say..thanks for the advice ill keep it in my mind :)
