this is the critical incident

"the unprepared mother to be":

Nancy grimes, a social worker, talked to Ayesha Faud, a 23 year old Syrian Muslim, about her impending delivery. "Have you gotten a layette for the baby yet?" The young woman replied negatively, and further conversation revealed that other nursery equipment, such as a crib, dressing table and carriage, had also not been purchased nor arrangements to borrow any.

Since Mrs. Faud seemed upset and unhappy. Ms. Grimes volunteered the information that some of the local merchants had established a fund to help clinic patients obtain needed items for their babies and offered to help Mrs. Faud submit an application. However, Mrs. Faud refused, stating "all will be supplied when the time comes, Allah willing."

As the bicultural leader should you tell Ms. Grimes to drop the subject, or she pursue the matter further?

option 1: Ms. Grimes should wait until Mrs. Faud returns for her next visit and hope a family member accompanies

option 2: Ms. Grimes should drop the matter because Mrs. Faud is telling her that the layette will be purchased before the infant comes home from the hospital.

option 3: It states Ms. Grimes should not pursue the matter because Mrs. Faud said no.

option 4: Ms. Grimes should plan a meeting with an interpreter since Mrs. Faud may not understand English well and not understand what Ms. Grimes is trying to say.

which one would be the best possible answer?

This is NCLEX style questions. Drop two of the obvious wrong answers and figure out the correct one. It should be pretty obvious in a critical thinking situation.

My slightly sarcastic Answer in my head would be number 5, which is in fact very very close to one of the other options.

As others have asked...What do You think?

option 1 i didnt like because we cannot assume that Mrs. Faud will come with a family family on her next visit.

but in muslim culture, they tend to take the adivce of their family member, other relatives and close friends.

option 2. i was thinking the right answer because theres an explanation in why she should drop the matter.

option 3. Ms. Grimes should explore why she is upset or unhappy.

option 4. we cannot assume that she cannot speak english.

BTW thanks for welcoming me here. i find this site very helpful.. :)

This reminds me about the story about the man who hears on the radio that his area is going to be flooded and he needs to get out of the house.

The neighbor lady comes to get him, and he says, "No, I don't have to, God is going to take care of me." And she leaves.

Then the flood starts to rise up to the porch, and a sheriff comes along in the police boat and tells him to hop in. The man says, "No, God is going to save me." And the police boat leaves.

The waters continue to rise, and he climbs on top of the house. Finally, a helicopter comes along and they lower the net to rescue him. The man says, "No, no, God is going to save me!"

And the waters rose, and he drowned.

He goes to heaven. When he gets there he says to God, "Lord, I have always been your faithful servant. Why didn't you save me?"

And God says, "I sent the radio, I sent your neighbor, I sent a boat, and I sent a helicopter. What more did you want me to do?"

Perhaps a better answer might be that, "God has brought you to this clinic where we can get those things for your baby." :)
