So I just moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area as an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse. Im in my early 30's, and I am starting completely over. I miss my old unit very much, and have started working in a new unit at one of the south florida hospitals. Im not feeling like I fit in because everything is done so differently. They are so busy that any chance of bonding with the patient is not likely. I would like to stay working nights and would like to use the QS system to chart. Would anyone be able to recommend a labor unit they work at? Reasons why its a great place to work? How is the charting? How many deliveries a month? IN house anesthesia? Nicu? Im not giving up on the unit Im in yet, but Im just trying to see if there is anything out there that would fit me better. Thanks so much. -oli

Why don't you give us an idea of the size/type of unit you like to work in? Then some of us who have worked in the area may have some suggestions for places to consider.
Im used to working in a unit that is strictly LDR around 400 deliveries a month, however I would like to have less. A level 2 NICU, in house Anes. I just want to be able to bond with my patients, and not rush them through labor b.c there are 10 more admits waiting in triage. What do you think?

I actually just turned in my 2 weeks at my l&d unit!! lol i enjoyed it very much (im very close with all the staff and have to tell them tonight that i turned in my 2 weeks :-( ) we have 20 beds on our unit (we are across the street from the major hospital and a low risk facility - the L&D in the hospital is a 26 bed unit) i turned in my 2 weeks because hospital nursing just isnt for me, i prefer more of the office setting and was offered a job that was too good to pass up. Anyway, I dont think i've ever had a night where i didnt bond with my patients (we do labor and delivery and post partum, but across the street does just L&D) we do the majority of charting on QS, and we always have anes. in house. I was on orientation (new grad) for 8 weeks and when i got off that, i felt really good, staff is really great and so helpful. i really am sorry to leave, but it just want the right fit for me, if i could take everyone i worked with with me, i would! We have a great NICU (if i remember right, its the top rated one) and its just a great place to work, just not a great fit for me personally. If you were to come here, you would probably be hired in the main hospital (i dont know if they are going to fill my position where i was at because they cut back staff (they asked a few people who wanted to go PT to switch from FT), but if you like post partum as well you could always try there! good benefits, staff, environment, training, etc. plus you already know QS!! let me know if you would like the website and i can PM it to you! good luck!:wink2:
